I am obsessed with the Fillo Factory’s organic fillo dough! If you are not vegan, you will fall in love with how flaky and delicious it is. If you are vegan, it is going to be your new obsession! This super thin sheet of dough allow you to make delicious dinners and desserts. Don’t let the thinness scare you, it’s super easy to use and your food will look and taste amazing!
From their website, they note that in addition to being organic and vegan, the dough contains very little fat, no cholesterol, no preservatives and no trans fat. It is also sugar free and yeast free. I compared the ingredients to another brand of fillo dough that is not organic and there is a big difference.
If you are using frozen dough (this is normally how you purchase it), place it in the refrigeratory for at least 7-8 hours to thaw. Allow unopened packages to stand at room temperature for 30 minutes before using. I cover a flat counter surface with parchment paper and unroll it on top of it. I keep the plastic on the bottom so I can re-roll if anything is left over. You want to keep the dough moist with light brushing of coconut oil or safflower oil. If you are not vegan, you can brush butter. Some use cooking sprays. Soon, I will be sharing a few recipes that were inspired by my beautiful Croatian mother-in-law Lila that uses fillo with Spinach for a meal and one with apples for dessert. Croatians and Bosnians use a lot of fillo dough in their recipes. It looks intimidating to cook with but trust me on this – it is super easy!!
The retail price is $6.99. For my recipes, I can make a dinner and a dessert with just one box. I found mine at one of my favorite places that goes above and beyond to avoid foods made with GMO ingredients: Jimbos grocery store. I believe they are also at select Whole Foods Market and Sprouts. Use their store locator on their website to find out where you can get yours.
