My assistant and our adventure reviewer Gwen took a recent trip to Colorado. Check out her first ATV adventure below!
For the week of 4th of July, I wanted to surprise my boyfriend Branden for a long overdue birthday trip. One of his best friends lives in Veil so we got together and planned a fun filled adventure weekend for him. I researched all the outdoor adventure companies and chose Glenwood Adventure Company. We wanted to do some white water rafting or hiking but my boyfriend had sprained his ankle so we decided to try an ATV adventure. It was so much fun!
We were immediately greeted by the outdoor adventure experts (aka guides) as we pulled up to the ranch. After some paperwork and a short safety video, we were on our way! The 2 guides in our group made sure we were properly geared up and explained how to operate the ATVs. They were super friendly and going above and beyond to give us a great experience.
The roads were super dusty that day, and we were told to make sure we had plenty of space between the ATVs so the dust could settle for better visibility. There was one guide in the front and one in the middle, to make sure everyone was accounted for. We did lose a couple of riders who took a wrong turn and I was very impressed with how it was handled. The guides noticed right away and gathered everyone while one of the guides went back to get the couple. It wasn’t long before they rejoined us.
At various points along the trails, the guides would stop us to share historical facts and give us a chance to take in the breathtaking views. This was Branden’s favorite part! They also answered all of our questions about the area’s history, landmarks, animals, and vegetation. One of our favorite stories was how the Indians used to chase the buffalo off the cliffs.
The ATV tour took us through valleys, over ridges, through cedar forests and oak brush hills, across creeks and ancient volcanic lava beds, and over high mountain terrain, skirting along cliff edges. There was so much to see that our eyes didn’t know what to focus on…it was breathtaking!
You will not get bored on the trip – we rode over bumpy rocks and fallen trees, and at other times, cruised through fields with sheep and sheep dogs that ran beside us. Off-roading through the rough terrain, especially at high mountain elevations gave us an amazing rush! I wasn’t prepared for how dirty we were going to get. At the end of the tour, our faces and bodies were covered in dirt but it was well worth it! The guides blew off the dirt at the end of the tour. If you go, take some wet wipes!
These guys have been doing these amazing tours for 30 years! They offer everything from horseback riding and fishing to off-road adventures and paragliding. Their guides have a combined 100 years’ experience. Their team’s passion, enthusiasm, and knowledge made our experience a memorable one. They are located on a private ranch that has 5,500 acres of canyons, rivers, trails and livestock. I would recommend them for any outdoor adventure! If you haven’t experienced Colorado in the summertime, I would highly recommend you plan a trip and don’t forget to see the breathtaking views with the true adventure experts at Glenwood Adventure Company. ATV adventures start at a little over $130 per person. For more information, visit Glenwood Adventure Company.
