When the topic of camping comes up, Mr. Cool always brings up the fact that my idea of camping is staying at a luxurious resort. I have to admit that I’ve never been the camping type and am very picky about the hotels that we book for our vacations. To say that it is difficult to travel with two small kids is an understatement. We normally need a vacation from our vacation after lugging the heavy car seats, strollers, portable cribs, diapers, wipes etc.
True 5-star resorts don’t normally cater to families with small kids. I’m thrilled to say that the Four Seasons Resort Maui at Wailea is changing that. They go out of their way to make families and kiddos feel welcomed. First, they provide you with all of the essentials so you can travel a little lighter. This includes strollers, playpens, baby monitors, baby bottle warmers, baby bathtubs, diapers, swim diapers, wipes, high chairs, baby swings, organic bath amenities, sunscreen and even a rocking chair! If that is not enough, they have safety netting on balconies, bed rails, baby bumpers, step stools and covers for electrical outlets.
The hotel also helps keep the kids entertained with complimentary daily kids activities through their kids club called Kids For All Seasons program, a toddlers’ pool, kids’ pool, game room and complimentary video rentals. The kids club allows you to drop off and pick up kids anytime to give you some special alone time. Kids enjoy activities like art, fish feeding and scavenger hunts. For older kids, you can take them for a complimentary canoe ride. Their restaurants offer either free meals for specific ages or special priced menus especially for kids. They even have a special “teens” menu. They are all about the details including items with the kids name on it and a stuffed animal (brown owls native to hawaii) on the beds for each child.
The attention to detail doesn’t stop with the kids programs. This Four Seasons is as breathtaking as the island it lives on. It is exceptional in every way including the staff that clearly has one goal and one goal only – to make your stay feel special. They remember your name and are always available to help and offer ways you can take your vacation to the next level. The hotel has three wonderful restaurants. Ferraro’s is amazing. You can enjoy a romantic dinner overlooking the ocean with lit tiki torches. Their artists’ showcase features a rotation of the island’s most notable talent – it’s like have a museum outside your room. It includes over 280 unique and original pieces of art – including paintings, sculptures, photography, ceramics, textiles, artifacts, etc.
If you don’t have kids or have dropped off your kids at the kids club, the Four Seasons has special places like the adults-only serenity pool with a swim-up bar – it has one of the best views of the Wailea coastline. Surrounding the pool are cabanas, each with their own large screen TV, fully stocked refrigerators and beautiful Missoni lounge chairs. They offer the normal resort areas with the Four Seasons touch including an 24-hour indoor weight room, outdoor cardio station and a spa you will never forget. The spa even offers hydrofacials and non-laser skin resurfacing procedures. Even without the amazing spa, you will look 10 years younger after your time at this resort. If you register for the Club Floor, you will enjoy private check-in and check-out, elevator key with exclusive access to the Club Floor, all day refreshments in the Lounge, including Continental breakfast, afternoon tea, cocktail service with hors d’oeuvres, desserts and after-dinner drinks. It also includes business services and high-speed internet access. Their Aloha Suite provides those with early arrival and late departures with a facility with showers, lockers and a lounge.
If we had to sum up this resort in one word that word would be “perfection”. They have created the 5-star resort of the future. They have found a way to make the impossible possible – catering equally to families, couples and business clientele. They go above and beyond to provide you everything you need for a memorable vacation. Unlike many resorts, they don’t charge a resort fee and don’t add charges for children’s programs, local calls, standard internet, bottled water, fitness classes and resort cars. No need to pack a lot – just show up. No need to leave the resort to enjoy amazing activities like canoeing, swimming, snorkeling, golf, tennis, pampering spa services and romantic evenings. They even have a complimentary photo ambassador available most evenings at sunset to help you capture special moments on your camera or cell phone. This resort is now one of our favorite places – for kids and adults. For more information, please visit the Four Seasons Maui at Wailea website.
